Do you use and store your laptop battery with maximizing its life cycle in mind? Or do you just use battery power when you need to, but forget there’s a battery at all most of the time?
All batteries are limited in terms of how long they will last, and how you use and care for your laptop battery will have an effect on how long yours stays functional. Whether you have an IBM battery, a Dell Battery or any other brand, the best way to take care of it is to run and store it properly.
One of the most important things to remember is to keep your battery in cool, but not cold temperatures whether it is in your laptop or being stored on its own. 20 to 25 degrees Celsius is the best range for battery storage.
When should you take your battery out? Try to have it around 30 to 40 percent charged when you remove your battery for storage. Take it out anytime you won’t be using your battery for more than two weeks. If you’re going to have it plugged into AC power for two weeks, you should also remove the battery. Even if you don’t need to, try to use your laptop battery at least once a month.
